Richard M. Foxx, MD. of North County San Diego
Physician, Horseman, Aesthete, Author, Lecturer
Doctor Foxx, known as “Doc Foxx” or just “the Doc,” has an enviable national and international reputation as an aesthetic dermatologist. He is well-known and highly respected for his gentle touch, his artist’s eye, and his gift of being able to assist patients in focusing on just the right correction needed to restore natural, youthful facial contours.
The Doc encourages his patients to be active participants in their care and lets himself be guided by what they see. His philosophy is to do the minimum necessary to achieve a natural look and he has always been more vested in developing relationships than in the quick fix. For the last 15 years the Doc has shared his talent with thousands of patients and has taught his techniques to hundreds of physicians and nurse injectors.
His desire to pursue the art of healing in a healing environment led him to open The Medical and Skin Spa in Indian Wells in 2003. During its existence that facility and its staff of medical aestheticians and nurses earned five major national and international awards and a place in 100 BEST SPAS OF THE WORLD. The Doc continues to offer Wellness Medicine and nutritional counseling to his patients when requested along with his aesthetic treatments.
The Doc's primary office is in Escondido, at Dr. Jerome Sinsky's Personal Laser Clinic on North Elm Street.
Doc Foxx lectures on topics as diverse as “Recent Advances in Non-invasive Aesthetic Medicine” and “Self-esteem and Peace of Mind.” He has spoken at numerous medical meetings and at Medical Spa conferences where he is considered an authority on the subject of medical spas.
After graduating from Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia, the Doc completed an internship in Internal Medicine followed by a residency in Gynecologic Surgery and Obstetrics at Hahnemann Hospital. He then volunteered for the U. S. Army, was commissioned as a Captain, and served as Regimental Surgeon for the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal after being honorably discharged.
He lives in Valley Center with his wife, JoAnn (CEO and owner of FoxxMD Evolutionary Skin Care), Sammy, their very wise black Lab, and several healing horses who are experts in non-verbal communication.

The Story Behind the Doc
The Doc on Macarena exercising a set.
Horses and dogs were the Doc’s first love. A lifelong horseman and horse trainer, the Doc has a deep interest in horse-human communication. He played polo for almost two decades and trained many of his own horses. In 1987 he was the producer for several television network shows featuring polo including the coverage of the US Open Polo Championship that was aired on Fox and nominated for an Emmy. Cognizant of the amazing healing power of horses, he has worked with a number of psychologists who use horses in the treatment of troubled and abused patients. He is presently at work exploring the use of horses in the treatment of post-traumatic stress.
Along the way the Doc also owned and trained the number one field trial Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Surfbreaker's Captain Kidd, in 1984. He is a sometime duck hunter and avid fly fisherman.
In the days before satellite navigation he was a sought out long distance ocean racing navigator and logged tens of thousands of miles in Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific ocean races. The Doc raced in the Newport to Bermuda Race, Southern Circuit, and countless races in the Med on such famous racing sailboats as BLACKFIN and WINDWARD PASSAGE as well as his own LUCKY PUFF and NATIVE SON.
The Doc is a published author (a murder mystery called “SPIRIT RANCH”). He is at work on his next book to be called “WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, WHAT DO YOU SEE?” which is a memoir of his many years in aesthetic medicine along with helpful tips on achieving health and beauty, inside and out. He says it’s going to read like ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL but with the names changed to protect the innocent. Also in the pipeline is another murder mystery to be called “THE SCULPTURE GARDEN MURDER.”
If you are around him enough you will discover his musical tastes run the gamut from Country and Western (Ian Tyson, Dave Stamey, Dwight Yoakum, Chris Ledoux) to bluegrass (lots of banjo) and opera (anything by Puccini). He thinks one of the best ways to spend a cold day after riding is cooking anything that requires garlic, having music on, and a glass of Sangiovese at hand. From time to time has even been known to pick up his treasured Gibson five string banjo.
